Files are used to shape nail plates, refine edges, work with cuticles, and polish nails. Depending on the type of file, you can handle various tasks. There are many options available for both natural and artificial nails.
Types of Nail Files
Nail files are classified by several criteria. One of them is abrasive grit. The measure of grit is expressed in “grit units” — the higher the number, the softer and more delicate the file. Lower grit means a rougher and coarser abrasive surface.
The roughest files have a grit of 60–80, while the softest range from 900–1200. Soft files are used for polishing; coarse ones are mainly used for shaping and maintaining extended nails.
A file suitable for natural nails should have no less than 240 grit. Anything coarser is meant for artificial nail correction only.
